All along The Golden Trail route there is evidence of the Chinese presence in names such as Clay Wells and Chinaman Flat.  There is other more concrete evidence too, such as the wells with their distinctively domed, beehive shape, square mine-shafts, coins, shards of pottery and in the 19th century, brass cooking pots that were jettisoned on the walk.  Most of these traces have been collected long ago but an old Chinese coin was unearthed only recently on the golf course at Robe!

In places where the Chinese stopped, they would sometimes work for the landholders in exchange for food and lodging – there are many properties that have outbuildings and other constructions that show a Chinese influence.  Below are some examples of the sort of historical treasures you will find off the beaten track.
Mundara Homestead - Owners Andrew & Kelly Jude.
The woolshed and cook house on the Mundara Homestead were built by the chinese.
